To the Girl who Hates Christmas
I met with a girl a few weeks ago who hates Christmas. She doesn’t like the lights, the songs, the joy. Christmas reminds her of the brokenness that she has experienced and the pain of the past wells up within her during the holiday season.
I get that.
The holidays can be hard, but for me, even if there is some pain the joy of the Christmas adoption story brings light into even the darkest moments of the season. What? Adoption? Yes! Christmas has EVERYTHING to do with adoption!
Did you know that Jesus was adopted? The Bible says in Matthew 1: 18 “When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit”. So Mary was his mother and Joseph was Jesus’ parent through adoption.
In this blog, John Piper explains how adoption is God’s idea and is the way that He brings us into His eternal family. Adoption gives us all the rights and privileges of being God’s children when we turn from our own way and trust Him with our lives. When we do this- Everything Changes.
God wants you to become a part of His family through adoption! He is writing your beautiful story. Jesus was adopted by Joseph and he lived a perfect life, died a horrible death, was buried and rose again all so that if you believe and trust Him, He will bring you into His family through adoption and you will spend eternity being fully loved and accepted by Him. No more darkness. No more fears. No more hating Christmas.
